I was going to do a blow-by-blow accounting of the past ten days, but seriously: my largest accomplishment has been remembering to take the right medicine at the right time and in the right amount.
The chemo drugs rolled through me like a tidal wave, pulling me under a surge of bone-deep, fiery-nerve pain that left me astonished. I stayed ahead of the nausea; I had the right mix of medicines paced out at the right intervals to keep my stomach pacified. But I didn’t manage the neurological symptoms and I paid for it.
Hence, my advice: take the drugs you are prescribed and the ones you are offered. Take them proactively. Take all of them. Don’t wait and see if you feel symptoms.
More again soon, and Merry Christmas.
